In one word, the root chakra represents TRUST. Trust in ourselves, and trust in our future. When the energy of the root chakra is closed or imbalanced, we feel a need to micromanage and control everything around us.  And there is a constant sense of worry about our safety and our future.  The root chakra often closes due to trauma. And will stay closed until the emotional response of the traumatic event has been healed.
